“Wow it is hot here? Why is the ground shaking. This is terrifying.”
“Yes it is terrifying. You are on what is called a volcano.
The heat and the shaking are only natural events.”
What are volcanoes?
Volcanoes are simply just opening within the Earth’s crust. Volcanoes are formed by
liquefied rock called magma that is pushed up earth’s surface and than the magma becomes lava.
Some Volcanoes erupt frequently while some may be inactive for centuries. Some volcanoes can erupt softly but others maybe powerful and explosive pushing gases, ashes and rock high up in the air.
Ash Clouds
Volcanos are able to shoot small particles up into the earths atmosphere. This can effect weather activity worldwide.
Earthquakes
Earthquakes take place when there is a split in earth’s crust and the two block slip past each other. When we have a split it is call a fault. When the two blocks slip past each other they generate a large amount of energy from the moving blocks. The energy creates a ripple effect similar to waves in a pond shaking the ground above.
In the event of an earthquake land structures such as buildings may collapse. A Richer Scale is called to measure the strength of an earthquake.
