Under the crust, there are deeper, hotter layers, but we only see the crust because it is the outermost layer of Earth.
What is the Crust Made Of?
The Earth’s crust is made up of rocks and minerals. These rocks contain different elements, like oxygen, silicon, and aluminum. Some common types of rocks in the crust are:
- Igneous rocks – Made from cooled-down lava, like basalt and granite.

Two Types of Crust
