The Amazing Engine Inside You!
Thump-thump! Thump-thump!
Can you hear that sound? That’s your heart beating – and it never takes a break! But what exactly is the heart, and what does it do?
Let’s dive into the world of hearts and find out how this incredible organ keeps you alive and full of energy.
⸻
What Is the Heart?
Your heart is a strong, fist-sized muscle that sits in the middle of your chest, slightly to the left. It works like a pump, pushing blood all around your body.
This blood carries important things like oxygen (from your lungs) and nutrients (from your food) to every part of your body – from your brain to your toes!
⸻
How Does It Feel Work?
Your heart has four chambers – two at the top and two at the bottom. They are called:
• Right Atrium
• Right Ventricle
• Left Atrium
• Left Ventricle
Blood flows through these chambers in a special loop:
1. Used blood from the body (which is low in oxygen) flows into the right atrium.
2. It moves into the right ventricle, which pumps it to the lungs.
3. In the lungs, the blood picks up fresh oxygen.
4. The oxygen-rich blood then goes into the left atrium, down into the left ventricle.
5. Finally, the left ventricle pumps it out to the rest of your body!
This cycle repeats again and again – about 100,000 times every day!
⸻
Why Is the Heart So Important?
The heart keeps your body running like a well-oiled machine. Without it, your brain wouldn’t think, your muscles wouldn’t move, and you wouldn’t be able to grow, learn, or play!
⸻
How Can You Keep Your Heart Healthy?
Your heart works hard for you, so take good care of it!
Here’s how:
• Eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.
• Exercise every day – run, jump, dance, and play!
• Sleep well so your heart can rest.
• Don’t smoke or be around smoke.
• Stay happy – laughter is great for your heart!
⸻
Did You Know?
• Your heart beats about 70 to 100 times per minute.
• A baby’s heart beats faster than an adult’s.
• Your heart is about the size of your clenched fist!
Now You Know!
Your heart is truly a superstar – pumping, beating, and working hard every single day to keep you alive and strong. So next time you feel it go thump-thump, give it a little smile and say, “Thanks, heart!”
Keep learning, keep moving, and keep taking care of that amazing heart of yours!
