Effective Ways To Teach Responsibilities To Children

Teaching responsibility to children can sometimes be a very difficult task in itself. Beneficially teaching responsibility to children progresses them to soon become responsible and organised adults.

One of the most effective ways to teach responsibilities to children is by getting them involved in chores, whether household or personal. This can also sometimes be a very difficult task. Household chores can be a great way to keep your children active, responsible and organised. Children that take part in household chores tend to harness great skill sets that prepare them for adulthood. It can also give your child a great sense of independence. Young children tend to be curious and their brain begins to suck up information eager to learn new skills. By getting your children involved in the household chores you will be teaching them new skills sets like taking on responsibilities and building up focus and concentration levels as they take on new tasks and activities.

In this article, we will be going through some simple and useful tips on how you can get your children to grow more responsible.

Write A List Of Responsible Activities.

First of all, we need to get to grips of what your child’s responsibilities are. If your child is new to this it would be best to start with small and basic chores like “put teddy away after use” or “always brush your teeth in the mornings and evenings.” It would be ideal to pick at least 3 responsible chores. Try your child out on those basic chores for one week and see how they get on.

Add A Weekly Reward System

Try offering your child more of an incentive to do their chores. Try introducing a points and reward system. For example, you can set a reward for your child to see a movie if your child achieves a significant score by the end of the week. For example, if your child brushes their teeth and completes their chore, you can reward them 5 points per day for completing that chore. If they brush their teeth every day for 7 days they will rack up 35 points by the end of the week and achieve the goal that you have set. This will give your child something to aim for at the end of the week.

Set Time Limits

As your child gets comfortable accomplishing their chores try adding reasonable time limits. As there are very good reasons to do so. What we’re doing here is practising your child to be focused and getting them aware of time management. Let’s put together a scenario here. Let’s say it’s time for our child to tidy up their bedroom and let’s say it usually takes our child 1 hour and 45 minutes to tidy up their room and let’s assume that it takes this long because simply our child lost focus and got sidetracked. They are now playing with their toys when they should have been tidying up their bedroom. At this rate, our child’s bedroom will take longer than ever to be put away. This is why we recommend that you introduce a time limit. Set a reasonable time for your child to achieve each chore. `Setting a time limit will promote your child to stay focused on a task.

Always Give Your Child Kudos.

Tell your child how well they’re doing or how well they’ve done. By doing this you are sending a positive message to your child and you are letting your child know that they are on the right path. Believe it or not, children are always seeking their parent’s approval. Remember you are the first-ever role model.
