What Is Oxygen?
The Invisible Gas That Helps Us Breathe!

What is Oxygen?
Oxygen is a gas that is all around us — even though we can’t see it! It’s in the air we breathe, and it’s super important for humans, animals, and even plants.
Why Do We Need It?
Our bodies need oxygen to stay alive. Every time you breathe in, oxygen goes into your lungs. Then, it travels around your body to help give you energy. Without oxygen, we wouldn’t be able to move, talk, or even think!
Where Does It Come From?
Most of the oxygen we breathe comes from plants and trees. They make oxygen when they take in sunlight, water, and a gas called carbon dioxide. This process is called photosynthesis. So next time you see a tree, say “Thanks!”
Can We See It?
Nope! Oxygen is invisible. But even though we can’t see it, it’s always there, floating in the air like a friendly helper.
Fun Fact!
Did you know? Oxygen makes up about 21% of the air around us. That’s more than one-fifth of every breath you take!
