Abacus
An abacus is an ancient device with beads or counters on a frame. The device is used for counting and calculating.
The abacus may still be used in your schools today for education. Beads are moved and counted according to value.
In our example below we have an abacus that displays 351. The abacus shows beads for units, tens and hundreds.
Simply by moving 1 bead across from the units gives us a total of 1,
by moving 5 beads across from the tens gives us a total of 51.
And finally by moving 3 beads across from the hundreds gives us a total of 351.
