☀️ Light from the Sun

The Sun sends out light in all directions. But did you know that sunlight looks white, even though it’s made of lots of colors? If you shine white light through a special glass called a prism, it splits into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet — the colors of the rainbow!

🌈 Light Travels in Waves

Light moves in waves, like tiny ripples. Some waves are long (like red), and some are short (like blue and violet). The blue light waves are much shorter and smaller than the red ones.

🌬 The Sky Is Full of Tiny Particles

Even though the sky looks empty, it's full of tiny air particles! When sunlight hits these particles, something amazing happens: the short blue waves scatter in all directions. That means blue light bounces around the sky more than the other colors.

👀 What Our Eyes See

Because the blue light is scattered everywhere, we see a beautiful blue sky above us! Our eyes are better at seeing blue than violet, which is why we don’t see a purple sky.

🌇 What About Sunsets?

At sunset, the Sun is lower in the sky. The light has to travel through more air, and the blue light gets scattered out of the way. That’s when we start to see reds, oranges, and pinks lighting up the sky!

🌤 So, Why Is the Sky Blue?

  • The Sun’s white light 🌞
  • The tiny air particles in our sky 🌬
  • And blue light bouncing all around us! 💙
