Who Was Julius Caesar?
A Brilliant General
Caesar led the Roman army in many wars. One of his biggest victories was in Gaul (an area that is now part of France). His success made him very popular with the soldiers and the people.
He was known for being brave, clever, and confident. His soldiers trusted him and followed him loyally.
From Leader to Dictator
At that time, Rome did not have kings. Instead, it was ruled by elected leaders and a group called the Senate.
But Caesar became so powerful that he was named “Dictator for Life.” This made some Roman leaders worried. They thought he might try to become king.
What Happened to Julius Caesar?
On March 15th, 44 BC — a day called the “Ides of March” — a group of senators attacked and killed Caesar inside the Roman Senate.
They believed they were saving Rome. Instead, his death caused chaos and led to the end of the Roman Republic. Soon after, Rome became an empire ruled by emperors.
One of the most famous emperors who followed was Caesar’s adopted son, Augustus.
