Homes in Ancient Greece
Most Greek homes were made from sun-dried bricks and had courtyards in the middle. The courtyard was an open space where families cooked, played, and relaxed. Houses were simple, with few windows and little furniture. Wealthier families had larger homes with separate rooms for men and women, but poorer families lived in small, plain houses.
Food and Meals
Ancient Greeks loved simple, healthy food. Their main meals included bread, olives, cheese, fruits, and vegetables. Meat was a treat usually saved for festivals or special occasions. They drank water, milk, and wine, and many families grew their own crops or traded goods in the marketplace.
Clothing and Fashion
People in Ancient Greece wore clothes made from wool and linen. The most common outfit was called a chiton, a long piece of cloth wrapped around the body and fastened with pins. Men’s chitons were shorter, while women’s were longer and beautifully draped. Sandals made from leather were popular for both men and women.

Education was very important in Ancient Greece—especially in cities like Athens. Boys went to school to learn reading, writing, maths, music, and sports. They also studied poems by famous writers like Homer. Girls usually stayed home and learned how to cook, weave, and manage the household.

Men worked in many different jobs—some were farmers, builders, soldiers, or traders. Others were artists, sculptors, or teachers. Women mostly worked at home, caring for children, making clothes, and cooking meals. Enslaved people also did many kinds of work, from helping in the kitchen to farming.

Ancient Greeks loved entertainment! They enjoyed music, theatre, sports, and festivals. Theatres were large outdoor places where actors performed plays wearing masks.
