Why Do Some Animals Migrate?

A Journey Around the World!

šŸŒ What Is Migration?

Migration is when animals travel from one place to another, usually at certain times of the year. It’s like a big journey or adventure! Animals migrate to find food, escape cold weather, or have their babies in a safe place.

🐦 Birds on the Move

Many birds fly thousands of miles to warmer places when winter comes. Swallows, for example, leave the UK in autumn and fly all the way to Africa! They come back in spring when the weather is warmer and food is easy to find.

🐟 Fish Adventures

Some fish, like salmon, are famous for their migrations. Salmon live in the ocean but swim back up rivers to lay their eggs where they were born. It’s a long and difficult trip, but very important for their babies to survive.

šŸ¦‹ Beautiful Butterflies

The Monarch butterfly takes one of the longest insect journeys. These butterflies travel from Canada all the way to Mexico—thousands of miles! The amazing part is that no single butterfly makes the whole trip; it takes several generations.

🐘 Land Wanderers

Not just flying or swimming animals migrate! Wildebeest and elephants travel across Africa to find fresh grass and water. They move together in big herds, which helps keep them safe from predators.

🧠 Why Do Animals Migrate?

Animals migrate because:

  • They need more food.
  • They want warmer weather.
  • They need a safe place to have babies.

Migration is nature’s way of helping animals survive!

Next time you see birds flying in a big “V” shape in the sky, you’ll know they are on a special journey called migration. Isn’t nature amazing?
