How Do Astronauts Live in Space?
Life in Space Is Very Different!

What Is It Like in Space?
When astronauts travel into space, they live inside a special home called the International Space Station (ISS). This giant space house orbits (goes around) Earth really fast — about once every 90 minutes! That means astronauts see lots of sunrises and sunsets each day.
Eating in Space
Food doesn’t sit nicely on a plate in space because there’s no gravity. Instead, astronauts eat food from special packets. Drinks come in pouches with straws, so the liquid doesn’t float away in tiny bubbles.
Sleeping in Space
Astronauts don’t sleep in beds like we do on Earth. They zip themselves into sleeping bags attached to the wall, so they don’t float around the space station while snoozing!
Washing in Space
There are no showers in space! Astronauts use wipes and special rinseless shampoo to stay clean. They brush their teeth just like us, but have to spit into a towel instead of a sink.
Exercising in Space
Without gravity, muscles and bones can get weak. Astronauts exercise for about two hours every day using treadmills, bikes, and stretchy resistance machines to stay strong and healthy.
Working in Space
Astronauts are busy! They run experiments, repair the space station, and even grow plants in space to learn how food might be grown on future space missions.
So now you know — astronauts have to eat, sleep, wash, and even exercise in very different ways when they’re in space! Life in space is like an adventure, but it also takes a lot of practice and teamwork.
