Where is the Sahara Desert?
The Sahara Desert is the biggest hot desert in the world!
It stretches across North Africa and covers 11 countries – like Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and Sudan. That’s a LOT of sand!
It’s almost as big as the United States – wow!
What is the Sahara Like?
The Sahara is super hot and dry.
During the day, it can feel like a giant oven – temperatures can go over 45°C (113°F)!
But at night, it can get really cold, even below freezing!
Most of the Sahara is made of sand dunes, rocks, and mountains.
Sometimes, you’ll even find oases – small spots with water, palm trees, and plants.
Animals in the Desert
Even in this hot place, animals have found clever ways to live.
Here are some amazing desert animals:
- Camels – with their big humps and long lashes, they can go days without water!
- Fennec foxes – tiny foxes with big ears that help them stay cool.
- Scorpions – sneaky and silent, they hide in the sand during the day.
Who Lives in the Sahara?
Some people live in the Sahara too!
One famous group is the Tuareg people.
They are nomads, which means they move from place to place, often with camels.
They wear blue clothes and cover their faces to stay cool and safe from sandstorms.
